Luxury Cruising Catamarans

So this is gonna be my last blog post, as everything has to end sometimes and this module of my transition year is over.

As you see in the title this blog post is about luxury cruising catamarans.
Luxury Catamarans have to have a minimum size from 8 metres, but the luxury versions I'm talking about are much bigger, so that the ship has enough Volume to live on. The sleeping area is then most of the time in the front or in the end of the two hulls and the normal living will be take place on the bridge deck. The Cruising Catamarans can come with or without motor. A lot of the ones with motor are solar powered. To be on a cruising catamaran doesn't mean that it's automatically a sailboat, but I'm talking here in specific about the sailboats. These Catamarans are really expensive and can cost the amount of a normal one family house.

Here a plan of a big cruising Catamaran:

But here because they are so pretty an other picture and with that I'm saying good bye I really enjoed the blogging so bye bye.

Mega-Catamarans

As I said in one of my last post I will write about different types of Catamarans, first of these with out a motor. So we'll now talk about Mega-Catamarans.

Mega-Catamarans are defined as "multihulls over 100 feet (30 m) in length" (Wikipedia)
One of the first of this super catamarans was an Allures cat, which is over 30 metres long and was build from Blubay Yachts who launched it 2007 in France, it got later refitted by Coste Design&Partners.
Coste Design&Partners is also preparing a new project called "Event Cat". It's a luxury Yacht which will be used for numerous events and will have a length of 62 metres

This isn't the Cat I'm talking about but it's still an impressive Yacht and I would suggest that you look allures up yourself to find even more impressive Pictures

Beside luxury an other reason for the increased building of Super-Catamarans was "The Race".
A sailing race around the world held in 2001. It was the first non-stop, no-rules, no-limits race ever.
Because of it's prestige and the $2 Million US price, there were four new Mega-Catamarans build.
The largest of these mega-cats called "playstation" and owned by Steven Fossett was 38m long and it's mast was 45m high had to drop due a serious damage out of "The Race" after just 16 days.

Sailing Catamarans

This next blog post is going to be about "normal" small sailing Catamarans are designed two land on a beach or at least to sail through very shallow waters. They are not very deep and their rudders, and if they are existing their centreboards can be retracted to prevent them from damage.

A Catamaran flies normally over the water and the Crew in the case of the Tornado 2 People balances the boat with their own weight.

They are used worldwide on lakes and the see.

The Nacra 17 is even an Olympic Class which get's sailed mixed, that means that men and women can sail it in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil.
The Nacra 17 got designed specially for the Olympic games, by the Company Nacra after they decided that neither there Formula 16 Cat or the Formula 18 Cat would be suited for the Olympic games

In the past, there have been other Olympic Cats like the Tornado which also got especially designed for the Olympic Games in 1967.
It was an Olympic boat class from 1976 until 2008. Until ,in 2007, the ISAF voted against an other tornado race at the Olympics.
The Tornado can get 30 knot fast and has then just one hull in the Water. It is one of the fastest boats in the ISAF Small Catamaran Handicap Rating System and the fastest Catamaran in the RYA Portsmouth Yardstick scheme.

Here is a video of a Tornado shoot  in Auckland New Zealand it's a bit older but still really good.

Preview about my next Posts

If we speak about catamarans we have to see the difference between the ones that are actually sailing boats and the ones with a motor .
But I first wanted to talk about the ones without a motor.

Here we can basically see three different types:
The "normal" sailing boat,
The cruising sailing Catamarans and
The Mega-Catamaran

I will talk about this different Catamarans in my next posts

The History of Catamarans

Catamarans have been use for Milena by the Polynesians.
William Dampier an English adventurer and pirate is one of the first European people to write about them. He described them as primitive but interesting boats which could barely carry a man.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catamaran#Usage_and_application

Some Sources say that not only the Polynesians hat the idea for producing a boat with two hulls but that even in the ancient Greece and ancient Rome used some boats of this types in battles around 300-200 BC but this way of building boats was already forgotten in the late ancient
